Extra ondersteuning nodig wegens corona?

We hebben al een tijd geen De Ruyter bijeenkomst kunnen organiseren en dat gaat waarschijnlijk ook nog wel even duren. Maar, hopelijk kunnen we wel op een andere manier mensen bij elkaar brengen. Zeker nu.

De coronacrisis hakt er vooral in de creatieve sector flink in, sommigen zijn letterlijk hun podium kwijt. Het Koning Willem Fonds, de organisatie die ondersteuning verleent aan Nederlanders in het Verenigd Koninkrijk die hulp nodig hebben, heeft nu een speciaal Coronafonds geopend om mensen tegemoet te komen.

Het manipuleren van de werkelijkheid met Paul Fuentes Design

De Ruyter on Design - 19 September

Voor dit De Ruyter event op donderdag 19 september, tijdens het London Design Festival hebben we twee sprekers, Ilse de Jonge en Paul Fuentes van Paul Fuentes Design.

Paul Fuentes Design richt op het manipuleren van de werkelijkheid. Ze produceren pop art met onverwachte mash-ups, ze produceren beelden van onmogelijke situaties en ze produceren een glimlach.

Hun designs hebben hun weg gevonden naar Dior parfum, Armani Exchange fashion en cup noodles, het is gebruikt door merken van Apple tot Yoplait, van 20th Century Fox tot Hallmark.

Ilse de Jonge en Paul Fuentes zullen het hebben over hun stijl, het creatieve proces, het werken met merken, licenties en hoe ze Instagram gebruiken voor hun portfolio.

De Ruyter on Design: Manipulating reality with Paul Fuentes Design

For this De Ruyter event, on Thursday 19 September, during the London Design Festival, we are joined by Ilse de Jonge and Paul Fuentes of Paul Fuentes Design.

Paul Fuentes Design focuses on manipulating reality. It creates pop art with unexpected mashups, it creates representations of impossible situations, it creates a smile on your face.

The designs have found their way to Dior perfume, Armani Exchange fashion and Cup noodles, it is used by brands from Apple to Yoplait, from 20th Century Fox to Hallmark.

Ilse de Jonge and Paul Fuentes will talk about the origins of the studio and their style, about the creative process, working with brands, licensing and about using Instagram as their portfolio.

Crossing Boundaries – over grenzen en hoe die veranderen of verdwijnen op het grensvlak van bouwkunde en architectuur

Voor dit De Ruyter event op woensdag 3 juli, tijdens London Festival of Architecture, hebben we een panel met drie gasten, architecten Edward Marchand en Sabine Hogenhout, bouwkundig ingenieur Luca Frasca en onze eigen Daphne Thissen.

Deze paneldiscussie gaat over grenzen en hoe die veranderen of verdwijnen op het grensvlak van bouwkunde en architectuur.

Het event begint met een presentatie door architect Edward Marchand (die wel eens eerder spreker bij ons is geweest), gevolgd door een paneldiscussie met architecten en een bouwkundig ingenieur geleid door Daphne Thissen van het De Ruyter Netwerk en Thissen Consulting. De kern van de discussie zal gaan om de nieuwe manieren waarop architecten en ingenieurs samenwerken in grote bouwprojecten.

Edward Marchand
Edward is Associate Director bij Bennetts Associates. Hij studeerde in Belgie, Nederland en Frankrijk. Hij is opgeleid als bouwkundig ingenieur en architect met design skills rond multidisciplinair werken. Ed heeft bij Bennetts Associates aan een aantal boeiende projecten gewerkt waarin hij design ideeën en concepten binnen project- en pitchteams het uitgewerkt. Hij heeft onder meer aan duurzame hoofdkantoor van Hampshire County Council en de bovengrondse stations van Crossrail in west Londen. Hij was de projectarchitect voor de herbestemming van de Midland Goods Shed en de Handyside Canopies in King’s Cross en betrokken bij het ontwerp van publieke ruimte van het hoofdkantoor van the Guardian. Hij is nu hoofdontwerper van de nieuwe sporthal op het King’s Cross terrein.

Sabine Hogenhout
Sabine is een Associate bij Hutchinson & Partners. Ze heeft gewerkt bij een reeks bekroonde architectenbureau’s in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Nederland, Duitsland en China op het gebied van huisvesting, gezondheidszorg, onderwijs, cultuur en de commerciële sector en in het ontwerp van publieke ruimte en ruimtelijke ordening. Sabine heeft gestudeerd aan de Technische Universiteit Eindhoven waar ze in 2006 haar masters in architectuur haalde. In 2009 verhuisde ze naar Londen om zich te specialiseren bij het UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering (The Bartlett).

Luca Frasca
Luca is een Senior Associate structural engineer bij Alan Baxter Ltd. met een brede achtergrond in renovatie en nieuwbouw. Luca werkt op dit moment aan de herontwikkeling van de Whitechapel Bell Foundry, bestaande uit de restauratie van een aantal monumentale gebouwen en een nieuwe uitbouw. In Swindon is hij verantwoordelijk voor de restauratie van de monumentale Victorian Carriage Works. Eerdere projecten waren ondermeer de renovatie van een Victoriaanse school in Noord Londen en de herbestemming van een monumentaal gebouw in de City.

Daphne Thissen
Daphne is gespecialiseerd in het verbeteren van relaties tussen klanten en bedrijven. Thissen Consultaning richt zich op netwerken en klantrelatie workshops, één-op-één klant reviews, pitch interviews en werkt met CEOs van architectuur, ingenieurs en bouw industrie waaronder BuroHappold, Gensler, Perfect Circle en Sir Robert McAlpine.

De Ruyter on Architecture: Crossing boundaries at the interface of architecture and engineering in today’s construction industry

For this De Ruyter event, on Wednesday 3 July, during the London Festival of Architecture, we are joined by architects Edward Marchand and Sabine Hogenhout, structural engineer Luca Frasca and management consultant Daphne Thissen.

This chaired panel discussion hosted by De Ruyter Netwerk looks at boundaries—how they are changing or even disappearing—in the interfaces between engineering and architecture in the construction industry today.

The event will open with a brief presentation by architect Edward Marchand, followed by a panel discussion with panelists from both architecture and engineering professions, chaired by Daphne Thissen of Thissen Consulting. A key area of the discussion will be to focus on pressing issues and new evolutions in the way that architects and engineers collaborate on large-scale building projects.

Edward Marchand
Edward is an Associate Director at Bennetts Associates. He studied and worked in Belgium, the Netherlands and France. He trained as a structural engineer and architect, acquiring design skills which embrace multi-disciplinary working. Ed has worked on a number of exciting projects at Bennetts Associates, developing design ideas and concepts within project and competition teams. Projects include the highly sustainable Hampshire County Council headquarters, Crossrail surface stations in West London and the development of an exemplar headquarters office building in the Green Belt outside London. He was the project architect for the conversion of historic buildings forming the Midland Goods Shed and Handyside Canopies in King’s Cross, and led the brief-setting exercise and the design development of the Guardian’s new civic space. Ed is now leading the design of a new sports hall on site Q2 in King’s Cross.

Sabine Hogenhout
Sabine is an Associate at Hutchinson & Partners. She has worked as an architect at several award-winning practices in the UK, The Netherlands, Germany and China, working in residential, healthcare, educational, cultural and commercial sectors as well as the design of public space and urban planning. Sabine studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Technology in Eindhoven where she received an MSc in Architectural Design in 2006. She moved to London in 2009 to specialise in Environmental Design and Engineering at The Bartlett (University College London). She has a special interest in environmental urban design and the impact of specific urban microclimates on the architecture and life in cities.

Luca Frasca
Luca is a Senior Associate structural engineer at Alan Baxter Ltd with a broad experience in refurbishment and new construction projects. Since joining Alan Baxter, Luca has overseen projects at all stages of construction. Luca is currently working on the redevelopment of the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, comprising the restoration of several listed buildings and a new extension at the rear of the site. In Swindon, he is responsible for the restoration of the listed Grade II Victorian Carriage Works. Luca’s previous work includes the refurbishment of a Victorian school in north London, the refurbishment and conversion of a listed Grade I building in the City of London, the extension of Coventry’s Herbert museum and the refurbishment of listed Grade I/ II Government offices in central London.

Daphne Thissen
Daphne is a business relationship professional working with businesses on improving their client relations started since 2008, when she started an international training and coaching consultancy, focusing on networking and partnership building. Thissen Consulting now focuses entirely on networking and client relations workshops, one-to-one client reviews, and lost and won pitch interviews, working with CEO’s of Architecture, Engineering and Construction firms. Its clients include BuroHappold, Gensler, Perfect Circle and Sir Robert McAlpine.
